Careers at G&T Moving: Experienced Movers Wanted

G&T Moving handles residential moves, piano and heavy-item moving, and office and commercial relocations across Toronto and the GTA. We are hiring experienced part-time movers who speak both English and Mandarin, already know the work, and can move an upright piano safely as a two-person team. Positions are available on payroll or as an independent contractor, and every candidate starts with a paid trial shift.

Just as important as what you can lift is how you behave inside a client’s home. The standards below are written down, reviewed with every new crew member in person, and signed before regular work begins. Clients reading this page should know: these are the rules every G&T mover works to.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Real moving or heavy-lifting experience. You already know how to wrap, carry, load, and strap — we are not teaching from zero.
  • Able to move an upright piano safely as a two-person team, including on stairs, with the right board and technique.
  • Physically ready for the work: long hours on your feet, repeated lifting, stairs, and many trips between the door and the truck.
  • Reliable: you arrive when you said you would, follow the lead on site, and treat the client’s home and belongings as your responsibility.
  • Able to get to jobs across the Greater Toronto Area. A driver’s licence is an asset but not required.
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin — required. Our clients and crew use both languages, and you need to talk with either on site.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.

How you are engaged

Payroll or Contractor, With a Paid Trial

Compensation is discussed directly based on your experience and the kind of work you can take on.

Payroll position

Employed through company payroll with regular statutory deductions. Steady crew members who work well with us can discuss consistent scheduling.

Independent contractor

Paid per job or per hour under a written contractor agreement. Suits experienced movers who run their own schedule and invoice for their work.

Paid trial shift

Every candidate starts with a trial shift alongside an experienced crew. The trial is paid — nobody works for free.

The Hiring Process, Step by Step

1

Apply

Text or email us (no phone calls, please) with how long you have been moving, what you have moved (especially pianos, safes, and office furniture), which days you can work, and which part of the GTA you live in. A photo or two from past jobs helps.

2

Follow-up conversation

We reply by text or email, then arrange a short conversation in English and Mandarin to go over your experience, availability, and whether a payroll or contractor arrangement fits you better. We tell you honestly how much work is available in the current season.

3

Meet and review the standards

Before any trial, a crew lead goes through every rule on this page with you in person — conduct in clients’ homes, handling valuables, reporting damage, privacy. Ask anything you are unsure of. Nobody goes into a client’s home with open questions.

4

Paid trial shift

You work one or more real jobs alongside experienced movers. The lead watches for technique, strength, safety awareness, communication, and reliability — and how you behave inside the client’s home, not just how much you can lift.

5

Written acknowledgement

If the trial goes well, you sign a written acknowledgement of our crew standards and complete your payroll or contractor paperwork. If it is not a fit, we say so directly, and the trial is still paid.

6

Scheduled jobs

You are added to the crew roster and scheduled based on bookings and the days you have told us you can work. Newer crew members are paired with experienced leads on high-value and specialty jobs.

The Work

  • Local residential moves: houses, townhouses, condos, and apartments, with stairs, service elevators, and narrow corridors.
  • Piano and heavy-item moving: upright pianos, large furniture, safes, and major appliances.
  • Office and commercial relocations: workstations, chairs, filing cabinets, racking, and equipment — sometimes after hours.
  • Loading and unloading: wrapping, corner protection, strapping, and placing items in the right room at the destination.
  • Basic disassembly and reassembly of beds, desks, tables, and shelving.
  • Part-time scheduling by booking. Tell us in advance which days you are available.

Inside a Client’s Home

Many clients are uncomfortable with movers walking through in street shoes or asking to use their washroom. They should not have to ask us to be considerate. These rules apply to every crew member, on every job.

Shoe covers and floor protection

  • Every crew member brings shoe covers to every job and puts them on before stepping inside, unless the client asks otherwise.
  • Covers are replaced when they are wet or torn, and taken off when going back out to the truck so street dirt does not come back in.
  • Floor runners and door-frame protection go down before the first item moves, not after something has been scuffed.

Washrooms, kitchens, and personal space

  • Crew members do not use the client’s washroom, kitchen, sink, or any other room for personal needs. Plan breaks to use public facilities before and between jobs.
  • If it is truly unavoidable, ask the client directly and tell the crew lead first. If the client says no, that is the answer — no pressure, no second request.
  • Only enter the rooms the job requires. Closed doors stay closed unless the client opens them for the move.
  • No eating in the client’s home. Water bottles stay in the truck or a spot the client agrees to.

Appearance and behaviour on site

  • Clean, work-appropriate clothing every day. Uniform where provided.
  • No smoking or vaping anywhere on the client’s property, including the driveway and building entrance.
  • No alcohol, and nobody works impaired in any way.
  • Phones away while working, except for job communication with the crew lead.
  • Polite with clients, neighbours, and building staff. Disagreements go to the crew lead, never argued on site.

Crew Rules

Clients trust us with their keys, their homes, and their most valuable belongings. These are the non-negotiables, and every one is reviewed with you before you start.

Honesty: take nothing

  • Nothing leaves a client’s home or office except what we were hired to move — not even items that look worthless, unwanted, or headed for the garbage.
  • Do not open drawers, read documents, or handle personal belongings that are not part of the job.
  • Money, jewellery, or anything that falls out during the move goes straight to the crew lead.

Protect everything

  • Wrap, pad, and protect every item as instructed. No shortcuts to save time.
  • Any bump, scratch, or damage is reported to the crew lead immediately. Never hide it and never try to fix it yourself. Hiding damage is far more serious than the damage itself.
  • Protect the building too: walls, elevators, lobbies, and corridors.

If you are not sure, ask

  • Pianos, artwork, glass, marble and stone, safes, and electronics are expensive and easy to damage.
  • If you are not sure how to move something, whether it should be moved, or where it goes — stop and ask the crew lead. Do not guess and do not force it.
  • If something is too heavy or feels unsafe, stop and call for help. Injury and damage help nobody.

Follow the crew lead

  • Work to the plan the crew lead sets. Do not change the route or the method on your own.
  • Prices, extra items, and client requests always go to the crew lead. Crew members never negotiate prices or collect payment from clients.
  • Pianos and heavy items are moved with the number of people and the method the lead specifies. Never alone.

Privacy and confidentiality

  • Client addresses, homes, offices, and belongings are private. Nothing is shared with anyone outside the job.
  • No photos or videos on personal phones, and nothing posted to social media. Job photos are taken only when the crew lead asks, for documentation.
  • On commercial jobs, company documents, screens, and equipment are not to be read, opened, or discussed.

Reliability

  • Arrive on time. If you cannot make a shift, tell us as early as possible — never just disappear.
  • Stay until the job is finished and the crew lead releases you.

Theft, deliberate damage, or hiding damage ends the working relationship immediately, and we reserve the right to pursue responsibility.

What You Sign Before Your First Regular Job

The crew lead reviews these points with you in person. Regular jobs are scheduled only after you have confirmed each one.

  • ✓ I have read every requirement and rule on this page and understand each one.
  • ✓ I will wear shoe covers inside clients’ homes and will not use a client’s washroom or kitchen without their permission and the crew lead’s knowledge.
  • ✓ I will not take or damage anything belonging to a client.
  • ✓ I will ask the crew lead whenever I am unsure, especially with valuable or fragile items.
  • ✓ I will report any damage immediately, and I understand that hiding damage ends the working relationship.
  • ✓ I understand that regular jobs are scheduled only after a successful trial.

How to Apply

Apply by text message or email only — please do not call. Tell us how long you have been moving, what you have moved (especially pianos), which days you can work, where in the GTA you live, and confirm that you speak both English and Mandarin. Photos from past jobs are welcome.

Careers FAQs

Can I apply without piano moving experience?

The core requirement for this role is moving experience, including being able to move an upright piano as a two-person team. If you have solid moving experience but have not moved a piano yet, contact us anyway and tell us about it — we will tell you honestly whether it fits current bookings.

Do I need to speak both English and Mandarin?

Yes. Being bilingual in English and Mandarin is a requirement for this role. Our clients and crew members use both languages, and on the job you need to understand the crew lead and talk with clients directly.

What is the difference between payroll and contractor positions?

A payroll position means you are employed through our payroll with standard deductions. A contractor works under a written agreement and invoices for their work. Both are available; we discuss which suits you during the phone conversation.

Is the trial shift paid?

Yes. Every trial shift is paid, whether or not it leads to regular work. The trial lets us see how you work, and lets you see our jobs and our crew.

How much work is there each month?

Jobs are scheduled from real bookings. The end and start of each month and the summer season are busiest; winter is quieter. We give you an honest picture of recent volume when we speak — we will not oversell it.

Why are the in-home rules so strict?

Clients hand us their keys, their homes, and their most valuable belongings. Many are uncomfortable with strangers using their washroom or walking on their floors in street shoes, and they are right to expect better. These rules are what let clients trust our crew, and they apply to every crew member on every job.

What happens if I damage something by accident?

Tell the crew lead immediately. Accidents can happen to anyone, and the company is insured for them. What we cannot accept is damage that is hidden.

How do I apply?

Text or email us only — please do not call. Include your experience, the days you can work, the area you live in, and confirm you speak English and Mandarin. Photos from past jobs are welcome.
