Long Distance Movers from Toronto & the GTA

Last updated:

G&T Moving runs long distance moves from Toronto and the GTA across Ontario, into Quebec (Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Gatineau), and on selected routes into nearby U.S. states. These moves are quoted by route rather than from a flat rate card: the price depends on the distance, the truck size, and the access at both ends. Send both addresses and a few photos and we reply with a quote based on your actual move.

What decides the price is mostly the same thing that decides a local move: access. The kilometres add to the job, but a third-floor walk-up, an unbooked service elevator, or a piano on a curved staircase at either end changes the plan more than the highway does. Send photos with your addresses and we plan around the real move.

Loaded for the Road

Furniture wrapped before it leaves the room, items grouped and strapped on the truck, and a piano secured on its board. The same care applies whether the drive is 20 minutes or 5 hours.

Sofa and armchairs fully wrapped in protective covers and loaded into a shipping container
Wrapped before it moves — it protects the furniture and the walls it passes.
Moving truck loaded with plastic-wrapped mattresses and furniture tagged with colour room labels
Mattresses in plastic film; every piece tagged to a room at the destination.
Crated furniture boxes staged on a driveway beside the moving truck ramp
Staged on the driveway so the carry order matches the rooms.
Upright piano wrapped, blocked and ratchet-strapped to the wall inside a moving truck
Secured for the road: wrapped, blocked, and strapped to the wall.

How a long distance move is priced

Quoted by Route, Not From a Rate Card

Our published hourly rates cover local moves in Toronto and the GTA. Once the destination is outside the GTA, we quote the route: distance, truck and crew, and the access at both ends. These are the details that shape the number.

  • Distance between the two addresses, and the route the truck has to take.
  • Truck size and crew size needed for the amount of furniture and boxes.
  • Stairs, elevators, and the carry from door to truck at both the pickup and the delivery address.
  • Condo or apartment rules at either end: service elevator booking, loading bay, and any certificate of insurance the building asks for.
  • Heavy and specialty items: pianos, safes, marble, glass cabinets, appliances, and single pieces over about 200 lb.
  • Whether you want packing help, or assembly and disassembly of beds, tables, and shelving.
  • Your date and how flexible it is. A flexible date makes scheduling the crew and the buildings easier.

For local rates, see the pricing page.

How a Long Distance Move Works

1

Send both addresses and photos

Give us the pickup and delivery addresses, the floor at each end, and photos of the largest items and any tight stairs. This is what lets us size the truck and crew before we quote, rather than adjusting on the day.

2

Route-based quote

We reply with a quote for your route and your load. Long distance moves are not priced from the local hourly rate card, because the distance and the access at both ends change the job.

3

Building bookings at both ends

If either address is a condo or apartment tower, book the service elevator and loading bay for both days before the move date is final. The building sets the schedule, and a long drive in between leaves little room to wait for a lift.

4

Wrapped, labelled, and strapped

Furniture is wrapped in plastic film before it leaves the room, items are tagged with colour-coded stickers matched to rooms at the destination, and everything is strapped down on the truck for the road.

5

Delivered and placed

The crew unloads and places furniture in the rooms you tagged it for, so nothing is carried twice at the new address.

Insured, With Our Own Crew

G&T Moving carries commercial business insurance, public liability insurance, and cargo and transport insurance. A certificate of insurance can be issued when a building asks for one at the pickup or the delivery address.

We use our own crew rather than a third-party labour agency, so the people who give you the quote are the people responsible for the move.

Pianos and Heavy Items

Pianos, safes, marble and stone pieces, and other heavy items travel with the right equipment: a piano board, straps, blankets, and enough crew for the stairs at both ends. Tell us about them when you ask for the quote so the truck and crew are planned for them.

See piano movers Toronto for how we handle stairs, baby grands, and condo elevators.

What to Send for a Long Distance Quote

Addresses and a few photos get you further than a phone description.

  • Pickup and delivery addresses.
  • The floor and building type at each end: house, townhouse, condo, or apartment.
  • Number of bedrooms or rooms to move.
  • Photos of your largest and heaviest items, and any tight stairs.
  • Elevator booking rules and loading bay details for any condo or apartment.
  • Whether you want packing help, or assembly and disassembly.
  • Your target date, and whether it is flexible.
  • Anything fragile or valuable: art, glass, antiques, a piano.

Long Distance Moving FAQs

How much does a long distance move from Toronto cost?

Long distance moves from Toronto are quoted by route, not from a flat price list. The price depends on the distance, the truck size and crew, and the access at both ends: stairs, elevators, parking, and building rules. For a quote that holds, send both addresses, the floor at each end, and photos of your biggest items. Our local hourly rates are published on the pricing page, but they apply to moves within the GTA.

Where do you move from Toronto?

Across Ontario, including Hamilton, Niagara, Kitchener–Waterloo, London, Barrie, Kingston, and Ottawa, as well as into Quebec: Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, and Gatineau. Quebec City is quoted by route. We also quote selected routes into New York, Michigan, and a few other nearby U.S. states.

Do you move to Ottawa and Montreal?

Yes. Ottawa and Eastern Ontario, and Montreal and other Quebec cities, are destinations we quote. Ottawa is roughly 450 km from Toronto. A past customer moved a four-bedroom home from Toronto to Ottawa, including a piano, with us; their review is on this page.

Can you move a piano long distance?

Yes. Pianos are moved on a dedicated piano board, wrapped and strapped, the same way as a local piano move. For a long distance move we confirm the stairs and elevator at both ends first, because a tight turn at the pickup or the delivery address changes the crew. See our piano movers page for how we handle stairs and baby grand or grand pianos.

Is my move insured?

G&T Moving carries commercial business insurance, public liability insurance, and cargo and transport insurance. A certificate of insurance can be issued if your condo or building manager requires one at either end.

What information do you need for a long distance quote?

The pickup and delivery addresses, the building type and floor at each end, the number and size of rooms, your largest or heaviest items with photos, any stairs or elevator booking rules, whether you want packing or assembly help, and your target date.

Do I need to book the elevator at both ends?

If either address is a condo or apartment tower, yes. Most Toronto condos require a booked service elevator window, and many destination buildings do too. Confirm both bookings before you lock in the moving date.

Do you also do local moves?

Yes. Local moves in Toronto and the GTA are billed hourly, starting at $100/hour for two movers with a 17 ft truck, with a 2-hour minimum. See the pricing page for the full rate card.
