Single Item & Furniture Movers in Toronto

Last updated:

Yes, G&T Moving moves single items and small loads in Toronto and the GTA. One mover with a pickup truck is $60 per hour, two movers with a 17 ft truck are $100 per hour, both with a 2-hour minimum, so a one-piece move starts at $120 before the fuel and travel surcharge. Time is billed in 30-minute steps after the minimum and starts when we arrive.

Not every move is a whole home. Sometimes it is a sofa from a marketplace listing, a dresser going to a family member, a fridge or washer that needs a second pair of hands, or a handful of pieces that do not justify a full crew and a big truck.

This page explains what a small move looks like, which crew and truck to choose, and what to tell us so a short job stays short.

Carried, Wrapped and Placed

Furniture wrapped before it leaves the room, carried through the doorway without scraping the frame, and placed where you want it. The same care applies to one piece or fifty.

What Counts as a Single Item or Small Move

A single item or small move is anything where the load is a few pieces rather than a household. If you can describe the whole job in one message and a few photos, it usually qualifies.

  • A sofa, sectional or armchair, from a store, a marketplace seller or one home to another.
  • A bed, mattress, dresser or wardrobe.
  • A fridge, washer, dryer or other large appliance.
  • A dining table, desk, bookshelf or TV unit.
  • A few boxes and a couple of pieces from a storage unit or a family member.
  • Furniture delivery from a showroom or warehouse to your home.

One Mover or Two? Pickup or 17 ft Truck?

One mover with a pickup truck at $60 per hour suits a light, easy load: a chair, a small table, a few boxes, with no stairs and good access. Heavy or awkward items need a second person, so two movers with a 17 ft truck at $100 per hour is the safer choice for a sofa, a fridge, a wardrobe or anything that has to be carried together.

If there is a staircase with a turn, or the piece does not fit through the door without being tilted or taken apart, tell us. That is where crew size is decided, and a third mover is sometimes worth the extra.

Stairs, Doorways and Elevators: What Makes a Short Job Long

With one piece, the access is the entire job. Measure the item and the narrowest doorway or stair turn on the way out and in. A sofa that does not fit the stairwell is a disassembly job; a piece that has to go through a condo service elevator needs a booking.

If either address is a condo or apartment, ask building management about the elevator window and loading bay first. A move that waits for the elevator is billed for the wait like any other.

Marketplace Pickups and Store Deliveries

Buying furniture from Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji or a store pickup is the most common reason for a one-item move. Send us the pickup address, the delivery address and a photo of the item, and confirm the seller has it ready and accessible. A seller who is not home or an item still in a basement adds waiting time to the bill.

Pianos, Safes and Very Heavy Items

Pianos, safes, marble or stone pieces, large appliances and any single item over about 200 lb need the right equipment and may carry an extra charge. They are not priced like a sofa. For pianos see our piano movers page, and for other heavy pieces see specialty moving.

What a single item move costs

Hourly, With a Two-Hour Minimum

Small moves use the same published hourly rates as any local job in Toronto and the GTA. Time starts when the truck arrives at your scheduled address, with a 2-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that. A fuel and travel surcharge applies and is confirmed in the quote.

  • One mover, pickup truck: $60/hour, so $120 for the 2-hour minimum.
  • Two movers, 17 ft truck: $100/hour, so $200 for the 2-hour minimum.
  • Three movers, 17 ft truck: $145/hour, for stairs with turns or awkward carries.
  • Pianos, safes, marble or glass pieces, large appliances and single items over about 200 lb may carry an extra charge.

The full rate card is on the pricing page.

Single Item & Furniture Moving FAQs

How much does it cost to move one piece of furniture in Toronto?

One mover with a pickup truck is $60 per hour and two movers with a 17 ft truck are $100 per hour, with a 2-hour minimum, so moving one piece starts at $120 (one mover) or $200 (two movers), plus a fuel and travel surcharge. Time is billed in 30-minute steps after the minimum.

Do you move just one item, like a sofa or a fridge?

Yes. Single items and small loads are part of our local service, billed at the same hourly rates as larger moves. Send the addresses and a photo of the item.

Can you pick up furniture I bought on Marketplace or Kijiji?

Yes. Send us the seller's pickup address, your delivery address and a photo of the item, and confirm the seller will be there and the piece is accessible. Waiting for a seller adds time to the bill.

Is there a minimum charge for a small move?

Yes. Every local job has a 2-hour minimum. After that, time is billed in 30-minute increments. Time starts when the truck arrives at your scheduled address.

Do I need two movers for a sofa or fridge?

Usually yes. Sofas, sectionals, fridges and wardrobes are awkward and heavy, and carrying them safely through doors and stairs takes two people. One mover with a pickup truck suits lighter, easy-access items.

Can you move a piano as a single item?

Pianos are single items, but they are not priced like furniture. They are moved on a dedicated piano board with the right crew for the stairs. See our piano movers page for how we handle them.

Can you assemble and disassemble furniture?

Basic disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and shelving can usually be arranged when mentioned at booking. Tell us what needs to come apart so the time is planned.
