Packing Services in Toronto & the GTA

Last updated:

G&T Moving can pack for you as part of a move in Toronto and the GTA, from a few fragile boxes to a whole home. Packing is billed as crew time at the same hourly rates as the move, which start at $100/hour for two movers with a 17 ft truck and have a 2-hour minimum. Tell us when you request the quote, so the time and materials are planned in advance rather than added on moving day.

Most people pack most of their home themselves, and that is usually the cheapest way. Packing help earns its cost in three situations: when time is short, when there are fragile or awkward items you do not want to risk, and when the move date is fixed but your schedule is not.

This page explains what packing help covers, how it is billed, and how to decide between packing everything, packing only the difficult rooms, or doing it yourself.

Packed, Wrapped and Ready to Load

Sealed boxes grouped by room, furniture wrapped in film, and chairs and fragile pieces protected for the truck. The packing is what the carry, the truck and the unload all depend on.

Screens, printers and small equipment wrapped individually.
Office chairs individually wrapped in plastic film and lined up before an office move
Task chairs wrapped individually before they leave the floor.
Sofa and armchairs fully wrapped in protective covers and loaded into a shipping container
Wrapped before it moves — it protects the furniture and the walls it passes.

What Packing Help Covers

Packing help can be as narrow or as wide as you need. Some customers ask for the kitchen and the glassware only. Others hand over a whole home. We agree the scope with you when you ask for the quote, so you know what will and will not be packed before the day.

  • Kitchen: dishes, glassware, small appliances, pantry.
  • Fragile and valuable items: artwork, mirrors, lamps, collectibles.
  • Closets and wardrobes, linens and everyday items.
  • Furniture wrapping in film and blankets, and protection for edges and corners.
  • Labelling by room so boxes land where they belong at the new home.
  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and shelving, when arranged at booking.

How Packing Is Billed

Packing is crew time, billed at the same hourly rates as the move: the crew and truck together, a 2-hour minimum, 30-minute increments after that. There is no separate per-box price list. Packing materials are confirmed in your quote, because what you need depends on how much is being packed and how fragile it is.

Because packing is billed by the hour, the best way to control the cost is to be specific. A photo of the kitchen and a count of the wardrobe boxes you expect lets us estimate hours instead of guessing.

Pack Everything, Pack Part, or Pack It Yourself

Doing it yourself costs the least and is fine for books, clothes and anything that is hard to break. Where help pays off is the part that is slow or risky: the kitchen, the artwork, the closets you have been putting off.

A common middle path is to pack your own boxes of soft goods and books, and ask us to handle glassware, mirrors and the pieces you would rather not be responsible for. Sealed, labelled boxes stacked near the door save more time on moving day than any other single thing.

Packing Advice If You Do It Yourself

Use small boxes for heavy items like books, and larger ones for light bulky things like bedding. Keep each box under what you can lift comfortably, fill the empty space so nothing shifts, and tape the bottom properly. Label every box with the room, and write FRAGILE on the side as well as the top.

Our guide on packing fragile items goes into glassware, frames and electronics in more detail, and the moving checklist shows what to do in the weeks before moving day.

Packing for Condos, Offices and Long Distance Moves

In a condo, packed and staged boxes keep the elevator window short. In an office, chairs are wrapped and desks are strapped. We have photos of that process on our office movers page. For a long distance move, packing quality matters more because the load rides for hours, so tell us the destination when you ask about packing.

What packing help costs

Crew Time at the Move Rate

Packing uses the same hourly rates as the move. Time starts when the crew arrives at your scheduled address, with a 2-hour minimum and 30-minute increments afterwards. A fuel and travel surcharge applies and is confirmed in the quote.

  • Two movers, 17 ft truck: $100/hour.
  • Three movers, 17 ft truck: $145/hour, for larger packing jobs where time matters.
  • Packing materials are confirmed in your quote, based on what is being packed.
  • Pianos, safes, marble or glass pieces, large appliances and single items over about 200 lb may carry an extra charge.

The full rate card is on the pricing page.

What to Tell Us for a Packing Quote

The more specific you are, the closer the estimate will be.

  • Which rooms you want packed, or whether it is the whole home.
  • Photos of the kitchen, wardrobes and any shelves of books or collectibles.
  • Fragile or valuable items: art, mirrors, glassware, antiques.
  • Whether you want packing the day before the move or on moving day.
  • Pickup and delivery addresses, and the floor at each end.
  • Whether you want assembly and disassembly of furniture.
  • Your target date and whether it is flexible.
  • Condo or apartment elevator booking details, if either address is one.

Packing Services FAQs

How much do packing services cost in Toronto?

Packing help is billed as crew time at the same hourly rates as the move: $100 per hour for two movers with a 17 ft truck, with a 2-hour minimum and 30-minute increments afterwards, plus a fuel and travel surcharge. Materials are confirmed in your quote based on what is being packed. Photos of the rooms let us estimate the hours closely.

Can you pack just the kitchen or just the fragile items?

Yes. Packing help can be limited to specific rooms or to fragile and valuable items such as glassware, mirrors and artwork. We agree the scope when you ask for the quote.

Do you supply the boxes and packing materials?

Packing materials for the job are confirmed in your quote. Tell us how much is being packed and what is fragile, and we confirm what will be used and what it adds.

Should I pack before moving day or on the day?

Whatever suits the job. Packing the day before keeps moving day short, because boxes are sealed, labelled and staged by the door. Packing on the day works for a small amount. Tell us your preference when you book.

Do you unpack at the new home?

The crew places furniture and boxes in the rooms they are labelled for. If you want help unpacking boxes as well, ask when you request the quote so the time is planned.

How should I pack fragile items myself?

Wrap each piece separately, use small sturdy boxes, fill empty space so nothing shifts, and mark FRAGILE on the top and the sides. Our guide to packing fragile items covers glassware, frames and electronics.

Is packed property covered by your insurance?

G&T Moving carries commercial business, public liability, and cargo and transport insurance. Ask about coverage for specific high-value items when you book, so it is confirmed before the day.
