Local details matter

A move planned for your part of Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill runs from the Oak Ridges Moraine in the north down to the Highway 407 and Yonge Street towers in the south, and the moving job changes completely along that line. Bayview Hill and Jefferson mean large detached homes and high volume. Mill Pond and older Crosby streets mean mature trees, narrow frontages, and long carries. The Yonge and Highway 7 corridor means high-rise towers, booked service elevators, and loading-bay time limits.

Our Gormley yard is close to north Richmond Hill communities such as Oak Ridges and Jefferson. Send both addresses, the building type, floor and elevator details, and photos of the heavy pieces, and we will size the crew and truck to the actual load.

01

Oak Ridges & Lake Wilcox

The north end, closest to our Gormley yard. A mix of newer subdivisions and older lakeside properties where driveways can be long or sloped. Truck access and carry distance matter alongside the total load.

02

Bayview Hill & Jefferson

Large detached homes with high total volume, heavy solid-wood furniture, and frequent disassembly. Usually a 26 ft truck with three or four movers rather than a two-person crew.

03

Mill Pond & Crosby

Older Richmond Hill, with mature trees, narrower streets, and tighter frontages. Some streets will not take a 26 ft truck comfortably, which changes the plan before the day starts.

04

Yonge & Highway 7 towers (Richmond Hill Centre, Langstaff)

High-rise condo territory. Service elevator bookings, loading bay time limits, and P1 clearance heights decide the schedule, so the booking window matters more than the box count.

05

Richvale & South Richmond Hill

Against the 407 and the Thornhill boundary — a mix of townhouses, older detached homes, and mid-rise buildings, with rush-hour timing on Yonge and Bathurst worth planning around.

06

Observatory, Devonsleigh & Rouge Woods

Established residential streets with individual driveways. Photos of steps, entrances and parking help us assess access and estimate the work.

Unloading into a Richmond Hill detached home

This load arrived from a Markham townhouse. The driveway and entry allowed a ramp between the 26 ft truck and the front door. Four-wheel platform carts carried items toward their assigned rooms, reducing intermediate liftgate and staging steps. Colour-coded labels applied at loading helped the crew sort the delivery. This method is assessed for each property, including slope, load capacity and access.

Before the truck arrives

Access changes the moving plan

  • Yonge Street and Highway 7 towers: book the service elevator first, confirm the loading bay time limit, and check the parking garage clearance height. A 26 ft truck does not fit under most P1 entrances, which decides where the carry starts.
  • Oak Ridges and Jefferson: long, sloped, or gravel driveways change how close the truck can park, especially in winter. Tell us in advance so we bring the right dollies rather than improvising on site.
  • Mill Pond and older Crosby streets: narrow frontages, on-street parking restrictions, and low branches can rule out the largest truck. A 17 ft truck making two runs is sometimes the faster option.
  • Snow and ice: clear and treat the route from door to truck before moving day so the crew and moving equipment have safe access.
  • Detached homes with a wide driveway and a suitable entry: where slope, loading and access conditions allow, a ramp may connect the truck to the entrance and reduce intermediate handling.

Care in the details

See the work behind the move

Photos from G&T jobs show wrapping, loading and access methods. They are not all confirmed as taken in this city.

01Furniture and mattresses are wrapped in plastic film before they move — it protects the item, and it protects the walls, railings, and door frames it passes on the way out.

02Colour-coded room stickers go on at the loading end, so at the destination every piece goes straight to its room instead of being put down and moved a second time.

03The crew is our own. Your move is not handed to a third-party labour agency, and the owner works the job, so there is always someone accountable on site.

How much do movers cost in Richmond Hill?

Richmond Hill moves are priced by the hour for truck and crew together, starting at $100 per hour for two movers with a 17 ft or 26 ft truck and $60 per hour for one mover with a pickup truck. Larger Bayview Hill or Jefferson homes usually need three or four movers with a 26 ft truck. All local jobs carry a 2-hour minimum, then bill in 30-minute increments, plus a fuel and travel surcharge.

Are you a local Richmond Hill moving company?

Our yard and showroom are at 2 Preston Ave in Gormley, just off Highway 404 at Stouffville Road on the north-east edge of the Richmond Hill area. Short-notice and same-day requests can be discussed; availability depends on the schedule. The showroom is private property and visits are by appointment only.

Which parts of Richmond Hill do you cover?

The whole city — Oak Ridges, Lake Wilcox, Jefferson, Bayview Hill, Mill Pond, Crosby, Observatory, Devonsleigh, Rouge Woods, Richvale, and the Yonge and Highway 7 condo corridor, along with neighbouring York Region communities.

Can you move a condo on the Yonge Street corridor?

Yes. Send us the booked service elevator window, the loading bay rules, and the garage clearance height if the bay is underground. We schedule the crew and truck around the building rather than asking the building to wait, and we can provide proof of commercial, public liability, and cargo insurance if management requires a certificate.

Does a bigger house make the move faster or slower?

Size alone does not decide the time. A wide driveway and suitable entry may allow ramp and cart access that reduces intermediate handling. Total time still depends on volume, disassembly, carry distance and crew size. A long, sloped or gravel approach can make unloading more involved.

Do you handle pianos and heavy items in Richmond Hill?

Yes. Pianos, safes, marble and stone tops, large appliances, and single pieces over roughly 200 lb are moved with liftgate trucks, piano skid boards, and specialty dollies. Declare them at booking so the right crew and equipment are assigned; extra charges may apply.
